The Story Behind Our Pyramid Logo

We didn't just choose any old logo for this blog. That would have been silly. On a blog that is committed to the success of small businesses and the enlightenment of aspiring entrepreneurs, we determined that our new logo must have a deeper meaning than just a symbol for the website and Twitter account (which is @TSBusinessBlog, if you're not already following).

For our logo, we chose a pyramid, and a very simple pyramid it is. There is nothing fancy about it.

We chose the pyramid because of the meaning it had to one of the most successful men ever, John Wooden. If you are unfamiliar with John Wooden, I'd try to get on that. For anyone trying to be successful in any field, Wooden is an unbelievable role model. He is the epitome of success.

During his coaching career for the UCLA men's basketball team, he won TEN national championships, including eight in a row from 1967-1973. For context, the next closest coach is Mike Krzyzewski from Duke, who has five.

For Wooden, he built his career, and his life, off of what he calls the "Pyramid of Success." Success, he says, is not built off of greed or desire. It has to start with good intentions and great habits. That's why the bottom of his pyramid includes words like "loyalty" and "industriousness." The bottom is filled with a strong foundation of traits those looking for success must either have or develop, since everything else will rest its weight upon that foundation. Take a look at the rest:

In the world of entrepreneurship, one should look at the pyramid as the business they would like to build. The foundation of any business must not solely be to make money. While making money is necessary in any business, it can only come at the top of the pyramid. The foundation of the business muse be to help others as well as yourself, and if the business owner follows the building steps of Wooden's pyramid, he/she is bound to accomplish whatever goal or goals they may have.

Our logo is the symbol of our willingness to embody Wooden's principles. At The Small Business Blog, our first mission is to help others achieve their dreams. Whether it is a business that we interview and advertise or an aspiring entrepreneur, we are committed to creating a healthier environment for those who wish to succeed. Anyone who has ever tried to accomplish a goal knows that there are always more critics than supporters. The world wants to tear successful people apart, and our mission is to keep those who are driven on a path to the top of the pyramid!

Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for our first small business interview coming soon!

Why do what you do?

"No one has ever become poor by giving." -Anne Frank
Too often, people think about themselves before they think about others. In business, this can be especially true. However, every business starts out as an idea, and that idea eventually evolves into a story, whether a success or a failure. This blog will uncover the stories of small businesses and create short blog posts (around 500 words) to publish those stories for the world to see. The inspiration for this blog came from Humans of New York, and we wanted to apply their principle to small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs. Our goal is to encourage and improve the climate for small businesses. We hope that the stories shared on this page will inspire entrepreneurs, young or old, to chase their dream, to turn an idea into a story. At the same time, we hope to help advertise the businesses about which we will write. We want to remind entrepreneurs that they will get out of their community whatever they put into it, that greed alone will kill their business and hurt their community. We will be publishing approximately one story per week each on a different small business!

We are currently working on our first story! Thank you for reading, and come back soon!
